EDS said it is currently working with its trial partner OptaSense Ltd to analyze the findings of over 600GB of recorded data.

Supported by more than EUR 1.3 million from the Horizon 2020 funding program, the Cable Sentry solution is based on Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) technology that detects subsea cable faults in real time.

According to EDS, the DAS technology constantly monitors export circuits remotely in order to make sure cable failures are quickly taken care of and enabling engineers to immediately identify the location of the fault, which saves time and thus helps minimize consequential loss.

In March, the UK-based company conducted trials at the 576MW Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm located off the coast of North Wales as part of the funding.

Located in the Outer Thames Estuary, the 630MW London Array offshore wind farm comprises 175 Siemens turbines fully commissioned in 2013.
