The wind farm consists of seven V90-3MW Vestas wind turbines located in the immediate vicinity of the 18-kilometre Great Belt bridge which connects the Danish islands of Funen and Zeeland.

European Energy agreed to acquire the Sprogø wind farm in March 2018. It was the company’s first investment into offshore wind.

“We are pleased to be able to accompany our long-standing customer European Energy on its first offshore project underwriting,” said Ralf Tabbert, Managing Director of NW Assekuranz. “We were able to bring our many years of offshore experience with more than 3,000 megawatts of installed capacity to the benefit of our customers.”

The Sprogø wind farm went into operation in 2009 and is one of the most efficient offshore wind farms. On average, the wind farm reaches an availability of almost 98 percent. In 2013, availability even reached 99.4 percent, NW Assekuranz said.
